Sulfur is mostly produced in refineries as a by-product and used mainly to produce sulfuric acid which is widely used in the manufacture of phosphate fertilizers and also used to make detergents, plastics and other products. These products are manufactured with high quality sulfur granules and pellets as raw material. We are engaged in an on-going project of offering high quality granular sulfur and intend to position ourselves in the industry as a manufacturer, exporter and supplier.
Uses of Sulfur: Sulfur is considered as a fourth macronutrient along with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in agriculture industry. Sulfur has various functions in plants. Some of these major roles are synthesis of proteins and chlorophyll formation. It is also essential in the synthesis of oils, especially in oil crops, and is an active component in the metabolism of nitrogen
Among end-user industries, chemicals processing segment dominates the demand for sulfur market. Sulfur is used in the vulcanization of rubber. Sulfur is added during the manufacturing process to make the rubber hard and to prevent it from melting during warmer temperatures. Sulfur is also used in the manufacture of sulfuric acid, sulfonic acid, potassium sulfate, sodium sulfate, formaldehyde, and hydrochloric acid.
Sulfuric Acid
Sulfuric acid is one of the most important compounds made by the chemical industry. It is used to make, literally, hundreds of compounds needed by almost every industry.
Uses of sulfuric acid
By far the largest amount of sulfuric acid is used to make phosphoric acid, used, in turn, to make the phosphate fertilizers, calcium dihydrogenphosphate and the ammonium phosphates. It is also used to make ammonium sulfate, which is a particularly important fertilizer in sulfur-deficient.
It is widely used in metal processing for example in the manufacture of copper and the manufacture of zinc and in cleaning the surface of steel sheet, known as ‘pickling’, prior to it being covered in a thin layer of tin, used to make cans for food.
It is also used to make caprolactam, which is converted into polyamide 6 and in the manufacture of titanium dioxide, used, for example, as a pigment.
Amongst its many other uses is in the manufacture of hydrofluoric acid and phenol with propanone all of which are used in many industries.
The main use of calcium sulfate is to produce plaster of Paris and stucco. These applications exploit the fact that calcium sulfate which has been powdered and calcined forms a moldable paste upon hydration and hardens as crystalline calcium sulfate dihydrate. It is also convenient that calcium sulfate is poorly soluble in water and does not readily dissolve in contact with water after its solidification.
The calcium sulfate hydrates are used as a coagulant in products such as tofu.
